I have been asked by a few clients recently to clarify the differences between a Headhunter and a Recruitment Consultant. I’ve decided to share some of the reasons with you.
A Recruitment Consultant will typically:
  1. Find candidates that are actively looking on job boards and Linkedin
  2. Take the path of least resistance (they typically have 5-6 vacancies to fill and will only invest time in the ones that are the most lucrative)
  3. Invest minimal time and move on to the next role
  4. Charge a fee upon completion of assignment
Some clients like this approach as it can be a quicker turnaround and the lower, no-risk fee charged.
A Headhunter ( if they are a true headhunter and not a recruitment agency masquerading as one)will:
  1. Search the whole of the market
  2. Not just rely on people who are ACTIVELY looking
  3. Invest considerable time in identifying and approaching ALL possible candidates
  4. Find BETTER people, not available to a recruitment agency via networking etc
It is a much more thorough process, takes time and comes at a higher fee rate, typically payable in installments.
Both have there advantages and disadvantages and this should help you choose the right method when you are finding your next employee. I hope this has clarified some key differences and I've published my first ever post. Get in touch for more details.
